How One Woman is Paving the Way for Patient Rights
Formerly a life sciences entrepreneur and founder of ViaCord, inc., she saw these concerns firsthand. Price transparency was key to ViaCord’s initial
authentic healthcare prices. Cynthia was instrumental in the develop- ment and implementation of the Trump administration’s healthcare price transparency executive order, and she has worked with the Biden administration to strengthen these rules and promote robust enforce- ment. She also has helped numerous states pass healthcare price trans- parency legislation. Now, along with AMAC, she is a major supporter of the bipartisan PATIENT Act of 2023, currently before Congress. Price transparency brings free-market competition to the healthcare space and lowers costs, which has long been a priority for AMAC members. We look forward to continuing our grass- roots support of Cynthia Fisher and her work with Patient Rights Advo- cate to advance this issue so patients will no longer be coerced into giving up their homes, wages, and savings to pay for unknown charges.
C ynthia Fisher is unwavering in her commitment to fostering transparency in healthcare pric- ing. As the founder and chairman of PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) a nonprofit empowering consumers to lower their healthcare and coverage costs through choice and a functional marketplace her efforts are trailblazing. Cynthia’s message is simple: When all healthcare prices are known, patients can protect themselves from rampant overcharges and spot wide price differences that can vary by ten times or more for the same care, even at the same hospital. Healthcare consumers, including employers and unions, can steer employees and members to the best quality care at the lowest possi- ble prices.
