DEBBIE AND JOHN HOLT “There’s Always Room for One More”
F ifty years ago, Debbie and John Holt attended a community picnic near their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, they met a couple holding a newborn baby and they learned the little girl was a foster child. After rocking the baby all afternoon, Debbie says, “I fell in love.”
That was the beginning of what has become a lifelong calling fostering babies in need of a safe home. When the first of their two sons was just over two years old, the Holts welcomed their first foster baby, treating him with the same affection
as their own son. The newborn had been exposed to toxic fumes, but they nursed him back to health. Part- ing with him wasn’t easy, but they’ve always understood their role as foster parents they love each child for the time he or she is with them and say continued on page 42
