Managing Your Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) Plan

1. ANNUAL REVIEW: Periodically review your Medigap plan to ensure it continues to meet your healthcare needs. Medigap plans do not have annual enrollment periods, so you can switch to a different Medigap plan at any time. 2. PLAN CHANGES: You wish to change your Medigap plan, follow these steps:  Research available Medigap plans in your area.  Contact the insurance company or agent offering the new plan you’re interested in.

 Complete the application for the new Medigap plan.  Wait for approval and receive your Medigap policy.

3. UNDERWRITING: Keep in mind that if you change Medigap plans outside of your Medigap Open Enrollment Period or guaranteed issue rights, you may be subject to medical underwriting. This means the insurance company can consider your health status and may charge higher premiums based on your medical history. 4. CONTINUOUS COVERAGE: If you’re switching to a different Medigap plan with the same benefits, you may be able to do so without undergoing medical underwriting. Check with the new insurance company to confirm their policy on continuous coverage.

5. STATE-SPECIFIC RULES: Be aware that some states have unique rules regarding Medigap plan changes and protections, so consider the rules applicable to your state.

6. KEEP YOUR OLD PLAN: Do not cancel your old Medigap plan until you have been approved for the new plan. This ensures you have continuous coverage during the transition.
